How to Make a Tube Top Shirt
Tube top shirts can cost a lot of money at a store despite being made out of a small amount of fabric. If you have a simple knowledge of sewing, you can make your own tube tops at home for a reasonable price using discounted fabric.

1
Choose fabric that contains spandex, so it will have enough stretch to it to support the tube-top shape. Measure around your torso, just above your bust, and purchase enough fabric to match that measurement. Wrap the fabric tightly around your body, and mark the place where the two sides meet by holding it with your fingers.

2
Measure the distance that you wrapped the fabric around your body. Measure the length you want the tube top to be by holding the tape measure up to your body--just above your bust and down to the length you want the top to be. Now you have the measurements for your fabric.

3
Cut the fabric to match your measurements, adding one inch to the length and the width. You will use this extra inch to make your seam down the middle of the back and the top and bottom hems.

4
Fold the fabric with right sides facing, and pin together along the open seam down the length of the top. Sew using a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine, or sew by hand. A zigzag stitch on the sewing machine is preferable because it will stretch with the fabric; any standard sewing thread will do.

5
Fold the top and bottom one-half inch, wrong sides together, and sew to create a top and bottom hem. Turn right side out and wear with the long seam down the center of your back.
