How to Create a Sports Resume

Developing and sending resumes to prospective employers is the first step in getting a job. Professional athletes use resumes to gain the attention of coaches and scouts who might want to recruit them. Athletic resumes have different features from traditional resumes.

Instructions

    • 1

Top your resume with your name and contact information. Make it easy for the resume recipient to reach you. List your cell phone number instead of your home number. Include your mailing address and email.

    • 2

Highlight sports experience. List each team you've played for, when you played for it and any positions you held, such as forward guard or team captain. Under each team, provide a summary of team accomplishments and personal statistics. Include any awards received or records broken.

    • 3

List education. Put any degrees received after high school. Include the institution you attended and the dates you were a student. List any academic or athletic honors received.

    • 4

Include personal information relevant to your sport. Coaches, scouts and other professionals want to know the height and weight of most athletes. Put this information on your resume as well as other personal information or statistics that may aid in getting a spot on a team.

Review your resume. Look for spelling and grammar mistakes. Examine your statistics for accuracy. Re-check your contact information to ensure it's correct. Ask someone else to review it to spot any mistakes you missed.
