How To Braid Hairstyles With Weave

For people with short, fine or thin hair, getting a weave--or hair extensions--is a way to get long, thick and voluminous tresses. Hair extensions are matched right to your own hair color (or can be slightly different to give the look of highlights) and are as long or short as desired. However, no matter the length or quality of the hair, a simple hairstyle like the braid is easy to accomplish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the hair into a low ponytail, but do not tie the ponytail off. If the extensions have been glued in, the tracks can be visible if the hair is pulled too high. Make sure to keep the braid low if this is the case.

    • 2

Divide the hair into three sections using the rattail. To avoid confusion, the first section on the left will be Braid 1, the middle section will be Braid 2 and the last section on the right will be Braid 3.

    • 3

Move Braid 1 over Braid 2 so that Braid 1 is now in the middle.

    • 4

Move Braid 3 over Braid 1 so that Braid 3 is now in the middle.

    • 5

Move Braid 2 over Braid 3 so that Braid 2 is in the middle.

    • 6

Move Braid 1 back over Braid 2 so that Braid 1 is in the middle.

    • 7

Move Braid 3 over Braid 1 so Braid 3 is in the middle.

    • 8

Now move Braid 2 over Braid 3 so that Braid 2 is back in the middle , and the braids are all in their original spots.

    • 9

Continue these steps until all the sections of hair are in the braid.

    • 10

Tie the end of the braid with a ponytail holder to keep the braid from falling out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Extensions are either glued right to the scalp in a track form, or the natural hair is braided and the extensions are woven into the braids (hence the nickname "weave").

  • They can last from several weeks up to several months depending on the quality of the hair and the experience of the stylist (natural human hair will last longer and look better than synthetic hair).

  • Want something different and elegant? Sit on a couch and arch your back over the armrests so that your head is parallel with the floor and your hair is hanging down towards the ground. Have a friend braid your hair as usual, and tie the braid off when finished. Slowly sit up. The braid will look loose, soft and elegant.
