Designer or vintage? In this case, Daisy Lowe models new 1920s inspired fashion at a vintage festival in London.

Vintage clothing can provide your wardrobe with fun and unique pieces. It can also eat holes in your wallet. Vintage clothing shop owners might spend significant time scouting for prime pieces. If you know where to look, you can find vintage clothing for less money.

Instructions

    • 1

Your first step is to raid your family's old wardrobes. Some of the best finds might be in the back of your dad's closet or tucked away in the attic -- those things your relatives did not want anyway.

Go to garage sales. Garage sales are like the lottery. You will most likely not find anything, but occasionally you will win big and find something awesome for just a couple of bucks. Sometimes schools and churches have large community garage sales where you can find some real bargains.

Look at thrift stores. Goodwill and Salvation Army wised up to the vintage clothing trend a long time ago, and have been pulling out the good vintage pieces to sell to vintage stores or in marked-up vintage sections. You will still occasionally find great cheap pieces at these stores, but your best bet is smaller, local thrift stores.

Trade with your friends. Hand off the clothing you don't wear anymore, and get new things without spending any money. A great bonus: You free up space in your closet, and your old clothes don't go to waste.
