How to Use a Chiropractic Activator

The activator technique, also known as AMCT (Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique), is a chiropractic technique that delivers a high speed, low force adjustment. Chiropractors worldwide use this technique/tool to adjust patients that may be contraindicated for a manual adjustment procedure. It is most often used in children or the elderly when it is believed that a manual adjustment might deliver too much force. The tool itself is a simple spring loaded device that enables the chiropractor to deliver a precise amount of force and speed to the segment being adjusted.

Procedure

1. Have the patient lie in a prone position (on their belly) and establish the appropriate segment to be adjusted. The appropriate segment is found using a diverse clinical method that only a chiropractor can determine from years of training.

2. Adjust the tension knob (usually located on the side of the activator) to deliver the appropriate amount of force desired for that particular segment.

3. Apply the device. With the patient still lying in a prone position, find the appropriate segment and squeeze your hand together to engage the spring loaded device to deliver the adjustment.
