- Warm water
- Clean washcloth
- Liquid glycerin
- Shaving razor
- Clean, dry towel

Wipe area to be shaved (such as face or legs) with a clean, damp washcloth.

Use fingers or washcloth to thoroughly wet skin. Glycerin easily dissolves in water, so make sure the area is moist enough so the glycerin spreads evenly over skin.

Put a small amount of liquid glycerin into your palm, then rub it between hands. The amount of glycerin needed will depend on the size of the area to be shaved.

Using fingertips, apply glycerin to the area you plan to shave by rubbing in a circular motion. Lather the entire area so it is covered with a thick layer of glycerin. Add more water with your fingertips if you are having trouble spreading the solution.

Using a shaving razor, shave against the grain of the hair. For example, when shaving legs, place the razor gently against the skin, starting at the ankle, and run it upward toward the knee.

Rinse remaining glycerin from skin using warm water and pat dry with a clean, dry towel.

Liquid glycerin can also be used as an emollient when left on dry skin, such as rough, cracked hands or feet.

Why shave against the grain? Is there something special about shaving with glycerin that makes against-the-grain the correct direction? Or is this direction only for legs and not, say, a man's face? Also is glycerin best used alone? What about shaving creams / gels? What about a shaving oil (mostly castor and olive oil)?
