How to Highlight Men's Hair
Highlighting a man's hair is, for the most part, different than highlighting a woman's hair due to the fact that men typically wear their hair shorter than women do. This fact makes it difficult to use pieces of foil when highlighting men's hair. There is a proper technique used by hairstyling professionals when attempting to highlight a man's hair. Things You'll Need
- Hair color
- Hair color developer
- Hair color bowl
- Hair color brush
- Latex gloves
- Hair curl clips
- Cool water
- Towel

Mix equal parts of hair color and hair color developer in a hair color bowl. Mix these two ingredients using a hair color brush.

Coat the hair color brush with the color mixture and scrape the brush on the sides of the bowl to remove excess product. You should have a very light amount of color on the brush when you begin applying the color to the hair.

Place latex gloves on your hands to protect your skin from the hair color.

Use your fingers to pull a half inch section of the man's hair upward. Use a small hair curl clip to clip away the hair around the section if necessary.

Gently apply the the hair color with the brush onto the section of hair that you are holding upward. Get as close to the scalp as possible without getting any hair color onto the surrounding hair.

Use your fingers to massage the product onto the section.

Pull the same section upward once again to keep it from touching surrounding hair.

Work around the head applying hair color onto small sections of hair with this technique.

Use hair color clips wherever it is necessary in order to keep the non-highlighted hair from touching the hair with color on it.

Allow the color to sit on the hair for approximately 30 minutes after you have applied the last highlight.

Rinse the hair with cool water. This will keep the color from spreading onto hair that you do not want highlighted.

Shampoo, condition and style as usual.
