How to Make Calendula and Oat Skin Toner

Calendula and oat skin toner is a very simple, easy-to-make homemade skin care product that can help dry, sensitive skin feel nourished and soft. Making cosmetics at home has other benefits as well, including substantial savings over buying expensive commercial products that may contain harmful or unnecessary fillers and additives to keep the products stable during long periods of shipping and shelving.   • 1 oz. dried calendula flowers
  • ½ cup natural steel cut oats
  • French press
  • 9 oz. distilled water
  • 1 tbsp. vitamin E cream
  • 8 oz. spray bottle

Instructions

      Combine 1 oz. of the dried calendula flowers and 1/2 cup of natural steel cut oats in a French press. Pour 9 oz. of distilled water into a small saucepan with a tight-fitting lid or tea kettle and bring to the boil.

      Pour the boiling water over the contents of the French press and steep for 12 to 14 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes or until completely cooled.

      Pour the mixture into the spray bottle and add the vitamin E cream. Shake gently and place it in the refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours before first use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the product by spraying generously over the skin and allowing it to dry naturally.

  • Keeping the skin toner in the refrigerator between uses will extend the shelf-life of the product by about three weeks.

  • Avoid keeping any homemade skin care products in an aluminum container, as there is concern about dangerous heavy metals entering the final mixture.
