How to Remove Cat Urine From Leather Furniture
Cats are popular and beloved pets until they urinate on places that are hard to clean, such as leather furniture. And there is nothing worse than the strong smell and cardboard feel of cat urine on leather. Cat urine can be removed with commercial products, homemade solutions or with the help of professional cleaners. If you own both cats and leather furniture, then it's a good idea to learn how to instantly clean the urine off your leather before it is ruined for good.

1
Wipe up the urine as quickly as possible. If your cat has just urinated, blot as much of as you can with a towel or paper towel.
-
2
Remove the leather cover, if possible, from any cushion, padding or mattress, since the inside might have to be cleaned as well.

3
Apply white vinegar and water to the stain on the leather. Mix one part vinegar with two parts water. Pour a little of the solution on the affected area and scrub with a cloth. Repeat until you have treated the whole area. Let it dry and repeat the process if necessary. If stain has penetrated to whatever is inside the cover, repeat the same process with that material.

4
Use hydrogen peroxide. Before doing so, test it first to make sure it doesn't bleach. Soak the cover and padding (if the stain has penetrated through) in hydrogen peroxide and let it dry naturally.

5
Try commercial enzyme-based cleaning liquids found in pet stores. Enzyme cleaners literally eat the bacteria in the affected area and when the bacteria is removed, the cat urine odor and stain is no longer there. This also helps to keep your cat from urinating in the same area again as, without the urine odor, your cat will no longer seek out that particular spot. Choose an enzyme cleaner with a citrus scent, which cats don't like. Apply the cleaner according to its instructions.

Consider hiring professional cleaners who use the PURT (Pet Urine Removal Treatment) systems.

Tips & Warnings
After cleaning the leather, you can treat it with a very light coat of plain baby oil or scented scented oil to restore its softness.
If the stain is large and you cannot separate the contents from the leather cover, skip to step 6.
Don't use ammonia-based cleaners. Ammonia smells like urine and may draw the cat back to the same area.
