How to Paint a Glass Window With Epsom Salt & Beer
Give windows a winter frost look anytime of year with a quick layer of Epsom salt and stale beer. The beer and Epsom salt solution will dry to a sparkling glaze that almost has the appearance of snowflakes. Light shining through from the inside of the house makes the dried Epsom salt crystals shine in the night. Things You'll Need
- 12 oz. beer
- Mixing bowl
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt
- Spoon
- Sponge
- Optional:
- Food coloring
- Paintbrush

Open the beer the night before and leave it out to reach room temperature and release most of its carbonation.

Pour the stale beer into a mixing bowl and add approximately a third of the Epsom salt.

Stir the mixture together with a spoon and slowly sprinkle the remaining Epsom salt until no more will mix in. Add a few drops of food coloring at this point if you do not want your salt frost to appear clear.

Apply the beer and Epsom salt paint to the outside of glass windows in any pattern desired using a small sponge. Get a realistic frosted look by glazing the base of the window along the sill with slightly higher corners.

Use a paintbrush to add a holiday message or give the look precise finishing touches.

Tips & Warnings
Try glazing over and removing stencils to give all the windows a uniform look.
Glazing on the outside leads to easier cleanup with a garden hose, but it may also leave your Epsom salt crystals exposed to rain that can wash them away.
