How to Tighten Loose Skin on Legs

Rapid weight loss, weight loss after a pregnancy or the natural progression of aging all can damage the skin’s elasticity, leaving many individuals with unflattering saggy skin. Loose skin on the legs--especially in the thighs, where most fat cells accumulate--can be challenging to reduce. There are surgical procedures that can get rid of loose skin. However, before you take such a drastic measure, you should try changing your diet, exercising to add muscle and tone, and consider body wraps.

Lift weights and strength train to add muscle and tone to saggy skin on the legs. This will tone the muscles in the thighs, the hamstrings and the calves in order to build the muscle back up.

Maintain a low-fat diet. Consuming less saturated fats and processed foods can reduce excess fat, which can lead to saggy skin. Food such as cucumbers, coconuts and olives have properties that help improve the skin’s elasticity.

Use lotions that prevent further loose skin; products with aloe vera and hyaluronic acid--a component naturally found in the body's tissue--can work together to lubricate and tighten the skin.

Consider plastic surgery to remove excess sagging skin. Diet and exercise may moderately reduce loose skin after sudden weight loss or pregnancy, but surgery can fully remove skin that cannot be tightened. For moderate loose skin, skin wrapping may be an effective alternative to shrink loose skin.
