How to Track a Website Visitor's IP Address in HTML

Save

Tracking a website visitor's IP address is invaluable in the Internet world. The IP or "Internet Protocol" address is a number that identifies each unique visitor. Trackers can track even more details, such as the area code and Internet provider. This information helps website owners understand their audience and make changes accordingly.

Web Tracker

  • Go to TraceMyIp.org and click on the Geo-Visitor Tracker button near the right side of the screen.

  • Choose the icon you want to use on the next screen. Some of them hide the numbers, while the others contain counters that show unique page views and visitors.

  • Insert the URL or Web address of your blog or website. For example: www. my blog.com.

  • Type your email address in the second box. This service is spam-free, so they won't sell your email to third parties.

  • In the third box labeled "Code Type," select, "HTML Code-Compatibility Mode." If you see your website type listed, choose it for maximum compatibility.

  • Click "Generate Code."Copy and paste the code into your website and it will track your visitors, including their IPs.

Tips & Warnings

  • JavaScript is the recommended code type. Chose HTML if your website is not compatible with JavaScript.
  • If your email is a free account such as Hotmail or Yahoo, your login info could be buried in the spam folder. Be sure to add them to your contact list.
