Self-defense has become its own industry in the United States. New seminars, martial-arts studios, books and videos pop up every day offering the latest and greatest techniques and strategies for people to defend themselves. While many of these options do provide a very legitimate service, depending on what your needs are, they can also be very expensive and time-consuming. Here are several easy self-defense weapons you can cheaply make yourself in minutes. These weapons can cause extreme harm and are very dangerous when used improperly, so caution and discretion are advised.
Place two tbsp. of hot red pepper into a drinking glass and add enough rubbing alcohol to completely cover the pepper by about 1 cm. Mix thoroughly with a spoon and grind it together for seven to ten minutes. (A blender also works but is not necessary.)
Squirt enough baby oil into the mixture to raise the level of the glass by another half cm. Mix again for another five minutes by either vigorously stirring it or by covering the top of the glass and shaking it.
Cover the second glass with the coffee filter and slowly pour the solution into it so that it filters through the coffee filter and into the second glass.
Pour the filtered solution into a small spray bottle (a lens-cleaner bottle works really well) and tightly seal it. You can carry it easily in a purse or pocket and use it as an effective deterrent against attackers. Shake the bottle occasionally to keep the solution properly mixed.
Place a roll of quarters into a sock and then roll the sock up so that it will unroll when you pull on the end of it. Hide the sock in a purse or a pocket, so you can use it against an attacker by swinging it at his head or ribs. The longer the sock, the more effective it is, because it allows you to strike from a greater distance. A padlock attached to a dog leash is an effective alternative to this option.
Use a lighter to create a flame and then spray it with hairspray in the direction of your assailant to create a short-distance flame thrower. It is easily concealable in a purse and can blind or disable a potential attacker. Be careful the can itself is not too close to the flame to avoid combustion.
Use pens as stabbing weapons during an attack. Target soft tissue in the abdomen or even the eye if the situation is life-threatening. A rat tail comb is an effective alternative as well and can be used in exactly the same manner for self-defense.
