How to Make Playlists on QuickTime

A QuickTime playlist is a snippet of XML code that is used to force content to play in a QuickTime player when invoked from a webpage. QuickTime playlists may be created using the Export function of QuickTime Pro. QuickTime playlists have the file extension of ".qtl" and instruct browsers to provide the user with the option of opening a content media file in QuickTime.

  • Click the Windows "Start" button and click the QuickTime Pro program link to start the application.

  • Click "File" from the top navigation menu, and then select "Open."

  • Navigate to the media file to be used as the source for the playlist.

  • Click "File" from the top navigation menu, and then select the "Export" option.

  • Click the link labeled "Movie to QuickTime Media."

  • Click the "Options" tab.

  • Select "True" or "False" to specify the autoplay on load option.

  • Enter a name for the media.

  • Enter the source URL for the media.

  • Click the "Save" button and specify a location and name for the new playlist file.

  • Click "OK." An XML file with the file extension of ".qtl" will be generated in the specified location. This file is the QuickTime playlist.
