How to Drug Detox Fast

The goal of any drug detoxification process is to help the body rid itself of toxins that have accumulated due to a history of drug use. The substance that you are detoxifying from will determine the exact type of detox program that should be used. Alcohol, heroine and cocaine are notoriously difficult to detox from due to their somewhat severe withdrawal symptoms; thus, detoxification from these substances should be overseen by a medical professional. While detoxification is different for every individual, there are certain steps that can be taken to help eliminate toxins from the body quickly.

  1. Steps to Drug Detoxification

    • 1

Perform 30 to 60 minutes of aerobic exercises every other day. Aerobic exercises are any that raise the heart rate for an extended period of time, such as running, bicycling, swimming or taking an aerobics class at work. According to Georgia State University, aerobic exercises enhance oxygen consumption, which helps cleanse the blood from toxins, as well as burns stored fat cells, which tend to hold onto certain toxins. This form of exercise also enhances the cardiovascular and respiratory system, which may have been damaged due to excessive drug use (such as with meth, cocaine or crack).

    • 2

Drink at least 10 eight-ounce glasses of water per day to help remove toxins that have accumulated within the body. Enhancing your water consumption will not only support the function of your vital organs, but it may also help remove narcotics, which can reduce the duration of physical withdrawal symptoms.

    • 3

Consume at least 420 milligrams of milk thistle extract with eight ounces of water one time per day. Make sure that the extract contains at least 80 percent silymarin, as this is the main active cleansing compound. According to the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan, milk thistle is able to cleanse the liver and help restore damage that has been caused by alcohol abuse as well as drug abuse. The compound silymarin works with the liver to protect it from toxins and remove toxins from liver cells, which will help expedite the detoxification process.
