How to Reinstall Old Version of Yahoo Messenger


From time to time, software companies release updates that don't quite manage to hit the mark. Perhaps they've changed the interface, or the updated version has features that slow down your computer. Whatever the reason, collections of older software are available on the Internet to help you revert to the previous version. Locate an older version of Yahoo! Messenger or other software at

  • Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.

  • Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows XP, or "Programs and Features" in Windows Vista and 7. If you do not see the appropriate option for your version of Windows, click "Classic View" in Windows XP and Vista or "View by: Small icons" in Windows 7.

  • Find Yahoo! Messenger on the list. Click on it, then click the "Remove" button if you are running Windows XP. If you are running Windows Vista or 7, right-click on Yahoo! Messenger and click "Uninstall."

  • Restart your computer and log back into Windows.

  • Visit the link for Yahoo! Messenger. Click on the appropriate link to download the version that you would like. Version 7.0 is used for the directions in this article.

  • Double-click the downloaded file to begin installation. Read through the license agreement, click "I Agree" if you agree to the terms and click "Next."

  • Click "Browse" to select the destination folder for Yahoo! Messenger, or click "Next" to install it in the default location.

  • Double-click the Yahoo! Messenger icon on the desktop to launch the program.
