How to Dye a Synthetic Wig

Dying a wig is a great way to turn an old wig into something that you will be able to use again. Because synthetic wigs are made out of very thin strands of plastic, they do not take the same sort of dye that real hair would. Because wig dye is exceedingly difficult to come by, there are other (cheap) methods to change the color of your synthetic wig. You will need to devote a bit of a time to this task. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place the wig on the wig stand and begin using the permanent marker to color a few pieces of the underneath strands to make sure that the color will appear as you would like it to.

    • 2

Color the strands of the wig beginning at the roots. Try to color the roots a bit darker as if they are natural hair.

    • 3

Continue coloring the rest of the wig with the permanent marker by placing 25 or so strands of hair over the paper and coloring them.

Tips & Warnings

  • This method works best on light or blond-colored wigs.
