    • 1

Research your stamp collection and determine the price value of each stamp. You need to arm yourself with knowledge of what you have to offer before you can sell the stamps. Buy a collector's stamp price guide or use an Internet site to find the price of your stamps.

    • 2

Get your stamps appraised by an expert. Once you narrow down your most expensive stamps, you should get them appraised by an expert who can verify that the stamp is authentic and also can tell you what shape the stamp is in (mint condition, near mint condition, good condition, etc.). This information will help you when you negotiate a sale.

    • 3

Find a buyer. Many people buy antique stamps. Visit antique shops and inquire as to whether they are interested. Post an ad for your stamps on an Internet auction site or in your local newspaper. Or, visit an online dealer and send an email to him or her about your collection.

    • 4

Research the buyer to find out what stamps the buyer prefers and how much the buyer has paid for past sales. Gather as much information as you can prior to negotiating the sale.

    • 5

Negotiate the sale. At this point you know the value of your collector stamps, you had your stamps appraised and now you have a potential buyer that you researched. You can now negotiate a sale. One of the tenet's of negotiation is "If you don't ask, you won't get it." Ask for the highest price you want, but keep a minimum in mind. If you can't reach the minimum, walk away and repeat steps 3 through 5.
