How to Install Hogue Grips

A standard handgun may or may not have a grip on the stock of the gun. The Hogue Company produces highly textured and finger-form-fitting grips for a variety of handguns. An optimal grip on a handgun is crucial for any gun user. Gun handle slippage is one of the highest causes of missed shots and gun accidents. Installation of the grips takes seconds with the quick-attach stirrup and grip screws.

Things You'll Need

  • Hammer
  • Chisel punch

Instructions

  1. Changing Non-Clip-Loading Gun Grips

    • 1

Remove the bullets from the gun.

    • 2

Remove the current grip from the handgun. Do this by letting the handle of the gun hang off the table and tap the two pins out that hold the current grip on. Tap them out with the hammer and chisel punch.

    • 3

Spread the stirrup that comes with the Hogue grip with your fingers. Pull the stirrup pin out.

    • 4

Remove the gun handle stocks' previous grip pin holder on the side of the base of the gun. Simply push out the pin holder.

    • 5

Place the stirrup over the base of the gun handle. Insert the stirrup pin back into the stirrup through the exposed hole through the side of the base of the gun (where you pushed out the previous pin holder).

    • 6

Slide the Hogue grip on the gun stock until it reaches the base of your gun's trigger. Screw the holding screw into the base of the Hogue grip, which will screw into the stirrup base.

    Changing Clip-Loading Gun Grips

    • 1

Remove the bullets from the gun.

    • 2

Remove the current grip from the handgun. Do this by letting the handle of the gun hang off the table and tap the four pins out that hold the current grip on. Tap them out with the hammer and chisel punch. The grip will come off each side of the gun stock because the grip is in halves since there is a bullet clip in the center of the clip loading gun stock.

    • 3

Replace the old stock grip halves with the new Hogue grip halves. Place each half on a side of the gun stock and screw them together over your clip-loading gun's handle with the screws provided.
