How to Install Inline Fuel Pump Not in Gas Tank

Replacing your inline fuel filter is essential to the smooth operation of your motor. The filter is designated to remove any sediment or debris from your fuel system before it reaches your motor. When filling your gas tank, it is possible to pick up any debris from the large fuel tanks at the gas station. There is a filter located in the fuel tank known as a strainer, but this strainer will sometimes miss smaller pieces of debris before they are sucked into the fuel system. The filter will strain that unneeded debris from the fuel line, preventing it from reaching your injectors.

Instructions

  1. Replacing the Fuel Filter

    • 1

Trace the fuel line from the fuel tank to the filter. The filter is generally located underneath the frame running off the tank.

    • 2

Remove the fuel lines attached to the filter. The fuel line is attached by a quick-connect fitting. The fitting should unsnap by pulling the tabs up and sliding the fuel lines off the filter.

    • 3

Unbolt the mounting bracket until the filter is freed up. You can now remove the filter and discard.

    • 4

Mount the new filter to the mounting bracket. Tighten to the frame to secure the filter.

    • 5

Install the fuel lines to the filter. The fuel lines should snap into position.

    • 6

Crank the engine and inspect for any leaks. Rev the motor to hear for any hesitation. This will ensure the motor is receiving an adequate amount of fuel to function correctly.
