How to Convert a JPG File to a Screensaver

A screen saver is a program that displays a moving image on your monitor after a specified period of no input. A screen saver may consist of moving text or images. Microsoft Windows comes with a variety of built-in screen savers, but you don't have to be limited to those--you can create your own screen saver using any JPEG file saved on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on your desktop and select "New" and then "Folder." Name this folder "Screen Saver."

    • 2

Place the JPEG file or files that you want to use as your screen saver into the new folder that you just created.

    • 3

Right-click on your desktop and select "Personalize."

    • 4

Select "Screen Saver" from the menu that appears.

    • 5

Click the drop-down menu labeled "Screen Saver" and select "Photos."

    • 6

Click "Settings." Click the "Browse" button and select the screen saver folder that you created.

    • 7

Select the speed of your screen saver from the drop-down menu and click "Save." Click "OK" on the "Screen Saver Settings" dialog box to save your new screen saver.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's best to include at least two photos in your screen saver. If you select only one, the screen saver will not move on your screen--it will display a stationary picture. If you select two or more, the screen saver will transition between them.

  • These steps were tested using Windows 7, but the process should be very similar if you are using Windows Vista.
