Instructions

    • 1

Remove dirt, dust and cobwebs from the surface with a pressure washer.

    • 2

Wearing gloves and a dust mask, chip away as much loose oil paint as possible with a metal putty knife. Rub the remaining paint with 80- to 120-grit sandpaper to remove it.

    • 3

Cover areas you do not want painted with blue painter's tape.

    • 4

Apply primer to any raw wood patches with a 3- to 4-inch paintbrush.

    • 5

Wash the primer from the paintbrush with warm water, then shake the brush vigorously to dry it. Allow the primer to dry completely before proceeding.

    • 6

Slide the paint roller cover onto the paint roller frame, then pour the latex paint into the paint tray.

    • 7

Apply the paint with the roller by moving left to right. Use a brush for areas that you can't reach with the roller.

    • 8

Allow the latex paint to dry for about two hours. Apply another coat if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Score or rough up glossy oil-based paint with sandpaper, or you will have trouble with adhesion.

  • Never paint over raw wood without priming it first; this can lead to peeling.
