Open an image that you wish to edit or enhance by clicking the "File" menu and then clicking "Open." Find the photo by going through the folders and using the small toolbar on the upper right to navigate. When you find the photo that you wish to edit, double click the photo to open.

Refer to the "Learning Center" sidebar on the left and choose any of the seven tasks there you wish to accomplish. Each task has a description to guide you on what actions you wish to take on the photo.

If you want to make use of the "Red Eye Removal Tool," you can start by clicking on the "Selection" tool from the toolbar, setting the mode to "Replace" and type to "Ellipse." Click on an elliptical selection and drag it to the affected area of the eyes. Hold down the shift key on the selection, choose "Edit" and then "Copy." Create a new layer by clicking on "Layers," and then "New Raster Layer." With the eye layer active, click on "Adjust," and then "Red Eye Removal." This will bring up the Red Eye Removal dialog box. On the "Method" drop-down menu, you may either choose "Auto Animal Eye" or "Auto Human Eye," depending on the picture you are editing.

Apply as many edits as you wish or make use of the other tools such as Makeover Tools, Smart Photo Fix, Color Changer, Straighten Tool, Correct Perspective Tool, or Repair Damaged Photos Tool until you are satisfied with the results. Save the file by clicking "File" and then "Save." A dialog should appear asking if you wish to preserve the original file or overwrite it with a new one.

Tips & Warnings

  • --You can also make use of the artistic features of Paint Shop Pro instead of opening a photo for editing by clicking "File" and then "New." From there you can customize various aspects of the canvas and begin painting.

  • --The "Learning Center" is meant for first time users to do common tasks quickly. For more options, check out the vertical toolbar where you can apply all kinds of effects and actions as well as use the different brushes. Clicking on any of the tools will update the "Learning Center" sidebar and will teach you how to use the tool.

  • --For Step 3, you can alternatively use the "Save As..." menu item to bring up a dialog that lets you choose where you want to save the file and what name to give it. This action preserves the original by default unless you choose otherwise.

  • --More information on how to use Paint Shop Pro can be found in the help section by clicking the "Help" menu and selecting "Help Topics."
