How to Update Trial Accounts to Active Accounts on World of Warcraft

Blizzard's "World of Warcraft," hailed by players as one of the most addictive games of all time, made a wise marketing move in providing newcomers a free 14-day trial option before forcing them to purchase the full retail version of the game. The trial allows friends of existing players, or those who are curious, to create a character, level the character to 20 and communicate with friends through direct chat, but that's about it. The trial version strictly limits what a player can do, while still allowing an enthralling in-game experience.

Typically, the 14-day trial expires as a player reaches the level cap; thus, forcing you to purchase the full game and expansion packs. However, be assured that your hard work over the previous 14 days is not lost, as you can easily upgrade your trial account to a full retail account.

Tips & Warnings

  • After your account is converted from a trial account to an active account, you can add expansion packs using any of the above methods through your Battle.net account; however, the easiest way is to perform the Direct Online Upgrade and pay for the downloads through the Blizzard Store.

  • Be sure to add recurring monthly subscription information through your Battle.net account. This will ensure your account does not become inactive after the initial 30 days. You can purchase game cards at select retailers, or sign up for monthly billing service through Blizzard.

  • Conversion of your trial account can take up to 72 hours. However, most restrictions are removed after payment of your activation fee. Even after conversion, you still may lack the ability to perform in-game chat. Please be assured this will unlock upon full payment verification.
