How to Change a Fuel Filter on an Envoy

Maintaining the fuel system in your GMC Envoy is a matter of keeping your filter clean and running clean gasoline. The fuel filter itself can be replaced in a matter of minutes it takes to replace, saving you money and increasing your fuel economy. The fuel filter will protect your motor from debris and sediments and also help your motor to run for many years to come.

Instructions

  1. Removing the Fuel Filter

    • 1

      Locate the fuel line along the frame rail underneath the truck. The filter will be along the fuel line around the driver door area.

      Unsnap the inlet line. This is the fuel line going in to the fuel filter.

    • 3

      Unsnap the outlet line. The fuel line will unsnap by pressing the release tab and pull off the pipe.

    • 4

      Unbolt the bracket holding the fuel filter in place with the socket wrench. As you loosen the bracket the fuel filter will come out.

    Installing the Fuel Filter

    • 5

      Install the new filter on to the frame rail. Tighten the bracket with a socket wrench.

      Snap the outlet line in place. Push the line on to the fuel filter outlet pipe till it clicks.

    • 7

      Snap the inlet line in place. The line will snap on as the outlet line did.

    • 8

      Crank the truck up. Inspect for leaks as the truck is running.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure the fuel filter is placed along the line with the arrow facing toward the front of the truck. The arrow on the filter designates the flow of fuel.

  • Use extreme caution working around gasoline. This is a highly flammable and toxic liquid.
