Whenever a file is downloaded, the creation date is recorded. Any changes to the file will result in an updated modification date. Finding the file creation date is useful if you want to see when the file was created. For example, if you have documents saved or songs recorded, you can see how old these files are. Finding the file creation date takes little time and only requires the click of a mouse.
Things You'll Need
- Computer mouse
Browse for a file. This can be an image, song, video, or any other type of file. Type the name of the file into the Start menu's search bar if you are unable to locate it.
Right click and select "Properties." The creation date will be displayed next to "Date Created."
Go to a specific folder. This includes My Documents, My Pictures or Downloads. Open the folder and read the date that the file has been modified. This will be located in the column besides the file type and size.
Highlight the file. Doing this will show when file has been modified. This method only works for document files.
Tips & Warnings
- The date modified can also be the creation date if no changes have been made.
