How to Draw NFL Football Helmets

Drawing your favorite NFL team's helmet is most easily done if you outline the simple profile of the helmet before focusing on the particular logo. The logo is what gives each helmet its identity, and after you master the outline you will be able to draw up any NFL team's helmet you want. Practice the simplest form of the helmet first, which is the direct side view.

Things You'll Need

  • Piece of paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Picture of NFL team logo of your choice
  • Use a pencil to draw a light circle on a piece of paper. The circle is to be the base of your helmet. Choose which side you'd like the helmet to face, then use an eraser to create the front of the helmet. The opening should be large enough to expose the face of the wearer. Draw a small circle on the helmet where the ear would be.

  • Complete the side profile of the helmet by adding the face mask piece. It should protrude from the helmet over the space you created with the eraser. The mask should cover the mouth area but not the eyes. It should leave enough room for the wearer of the helmet to see through. From the side, the mask will appear as a small square constructed of thin, woven bars. Finish by adding a small chin guard beneath the mask, connecting with the small ear area circle you drew earlier.

  • Add the logo of whichever NFL team you'd like to the helmet by first studying a picture of the logo, then carefully drawing it out with the pencil. Make sure to use precision, drawing as slowly as necessary to make the logo sharp. When the logo is complete, use the eraser to erase any overlapping or uneven lines.
