How to Create Christmas Snow Fonts

During the holidays, you can add holiday cheer through word processing documents, fliers, instant messages and Web pages using a collection of holiday fonts. The fonts offer different themes, but you can also create your own holiday themed font for free using Fontcapture.com. The website is easy to use and users can make as many holiday themed fonts as needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Fontcapture.com homepage (see References). Be weary of other font creation websites that force users to download software or pay a fee. Fontcapture.com is free and everything is accessed directly through the website without software.

    • 2

Click on the "Start Here" link and print out the font template. This is the template that the font will be created from. The template will open the Adobe Reader. Print out the template, making sure that it prints on only one sheet of paper.

    • 3

Review the template paper. It features the alphabet in all capital letters, lowercase letter, numbers 1 through 10 and symbols like "!", "@" and more.

    • 4

Use a thin-tipped black marker to draw in each letter. The black marker will make the font easier to read when uploaded and allow for more detailed letters. Each box has three small lines to help guide letters. The middle line is the base line for the letter, the top line for tall letters and the bottom line is for letters that hang down like "g" and "y".

    • 5

Add a Christmas theme to each letter. For example, the letter "A" can easily be turned into a Christmas tree by adding small frizzled edges on the outside, a star at the top and ornaments hanging on the tree.

    • 6

Turn the letter "B" into a snowman by using the "B" as the stomach and bottom of the snowman and added a small head on the top. Create a custom snowflake design for round letters like "O", "C", "Q", and "P".

    • 7

Add snowcaps to each letter by starting out on the left side, drawing a squiggly line across the letter and slightly extending the snow cap on both sides to make it look piled on. Theholidayspot.com (see References) features examples of this you can implement into the font.

    • 8

Scan the template as a JPEG file when all of the fonts have been drawn in. If you leave some of the letters of symbols blank, they will simply appear as blanks when using the fonts.

    • 9

Upload the font to the website. Wait a few minutes for the website to process the drawings and scans. A preview of the font will automatically load. Save the font file to the hard drive.

    • 10

Go to the computer's default font folder. This is in the "WINDOWS" folder on the main hard drive. Click and drag the new font file into the folder to automatically install it.

    • 11

Open up a word processor to test out the font.
