How to Disable Parental Control in Windows XP

Content Advisor is a Windows XP component that allows you to set parental controls to govern what your children are exposed to on the Internet. It allows you to block adult material and set limitations on websites to which your children have access. It can also occasionally block websites that are not necessarily adult-related. If you don't want it, you can disable this parental control.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Internet Explorer and click the "Tools" button. Scroll down and click "Internet Options".

    • 2

Click the "Content" tab and click "Disable" under "Content Advisor". Type your administrator password and click "OK" to disable the parental control.

    • 3

If you have forgotten your administrator password, access the "Start" menu and click "Run." Type "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the registry.

    • 4

Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder located on the left panel and expand "SOFTWARE." Expand "Microsoft", "Windows", "CurrentVersion" and "Policies."

    • 5

Double-click the "Ratings" folder. You should see the Content Advisor key on the right panel. Right-click it and click "Delete." You have deleted the original password.

    • 6

Go back to the "Internet Options" console in Internet Explorer and click the "Content" tab. Click "Disable " under "Content Advisor". When Windows asks for a password, leave it blank or create a new one. Click "OK" to save the changes and disable the parental control.
