How to Set Up a Controller for a PC
If you're an avid PC video game player, it can be wise to invest in a good controller for your PC. These operate in much the same way that a controller for a PlayStation 3 or XBox360 does, only they connect to your PC via a USB port. This will enable you to stop using your keyboard to control your favorite video game titles and starting playing them just like you would on a console. Setting up a controller for a PC can be done in a few simple steps.

1
Plug your PC Controller into your computer. The cord that runs off of the controller plugs directly into any open USB port on your computer.
-
2
Install any software that came with the controller. Most PC controllers will come with a CD filled with important drivers that enable your device to work with your operating system. Put the CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive and wait a few seconds for the installer utility to automatically appear on screen. Follow the directions laid out before you to install the software.

Use this utility to calibrate your controller and assign specific commands to specific buttons. You can customize your controller based on the game that you are playing. When finished, save your changes and load your favorite game. Your controller will be all set up, configured and ready to use.
