How to Find the Right Size & Weight Baseball Bat
Determining the right size and weight for a baseball bat is important to maximize your performance as a batter. There are general guidelines that can help you choose the length and weight based on your height, weight and age. But these guidelines are just a starting point. The bat that's best for you will also depend on what type of hitter you are and your personal preference. If you are a stronger hitter, you may be able to handle a heavier bat. But if you hit for average, you may want a lighter bat so you have more control during your swing.

Measure your height in inches. If you know your height in inches and feet, convert to inches by multiplying the number of feet by 12 and adding the number of inches. For example, if your height is 5 feet, 6 inches, you would multiply 5 times 12 and add 6 to get 66 inches.

Determine your weight in pounds.

Use a sizing chart to estimate the bat length that is best for you. For example, if you weigh 135 pounds and are 66 inches tall, start with a 33-inch bat.

Determine the approximate weight for your bat using the formula for your age. For 8- to 10-year-olds, divide the height by four and add four to get the number of ounces. For example, if you were 58 inches tall, you would start with an 18.5-ounce bat. For 11- and 12-year-olds, divide their weight in pounds by 18 and add 14. For example, a 128-pound 12-year-old would start with a bat weighing about 21.1 ounces. For high schoolers and up, divide the height in inches by three and add five. For example, if you were 69 inches tall, you would start with a 28-ounce bat.

Try out the bat of the determined length and weight and adjust until you feel comfortable. For example, a singles hitter might be more comfortable with a bat a little lighter than recommended, while a home run slugger might be more comfortable swinging a heavier bat.
