How to Install a Ford Granada Carburetor

The carburetor is the heart of your motor. It has to be able to receive and distribute fuel into the motor. Replacing the carburetor on your Ford Granada depends on making sure all the lines and linkage go on the new carburetor exactly as they did on the old one. This will ensure that your carburetor installation is successful. Replacing the heart of your car can be tricky, but worthwhile once the job is complete.

  1. Removing the Old Carburetor

      Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Ensure you have proper lighting before beginning installation.

      Remove the air cleaner. The air cleaner can be removed by unscrewing the wing nut from the top of the assembly with your fingers. Remove any vacuum lines and mark distinctively to ensure they are re-installed correctly. You can remove the vacuum lines with your fingers.

      Disconnect all vacuum lines from the carburetor. Mark each vacuum line distinctively.

      Remove the fuel line. Be careful when removing, as there will be fuel in the line. Disconnect with a wrench.

      Disconnect the PCV hose. Pull back to keep it from interfering with the removal of the carburetor.

    Installing the New Carburetor

      Connect the linkage to the new carburetor. You can reapply the linkage with a pair of pliers.

      Attach the vacuum hoses and the PCV valve on to the carburetor. Be sure they go back to where they are supposed to go. You will need to reapply the air cleaner assembly and its respective hoses.

    Testing the New Carburetor

      Connect the fuel line. Be sure no foreign debris gets into the fuel line. Tighten snug with a wrench.

      Turn the key to engage the fuel pump. Press the accelerator pedal to push fuel into the new carburetor.

      Crank up the car. Listen to the vehicle. If the car is idling too high, you will need to adjust the carburetor.

      Locate the adjustment screw next to the throttle assembly on the carburetor. Turn the screw until the motor is idling correctly.

      Operate vehicle to test new carburetor. This is to test that the adjustments were made correctly.
