Make a News Broadcast Podcast With Kids

Kids love podcasting, so here is a great idea for a podcasting assignment. Creating a newscast in Garageband is very easy because the program comes with preloaded sound effects and jingles. Follow these steps to create a really cool assignment for your class that can involve up to 4 or 5 students (or one student who changes his/her voice for each character).

* This applies to Macs, but if you want to use a PC you can do it with a program called Audacity and try to find the newscast sound effects on Limewire.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open Garageband on your Mac.

  2. Step 2

Find the "Broadcast News" sound effect under Jingles/Cinematic. Play the medium version at the beginning.

  3. Step 3

Start recording your broadcast and have the main newsperson hand it over to the "sports desk" or the "weather person." Play weather sound effects behind the weather person's report.

  4. Step 4

Place the short Broadcast News effect in between the sections and end with the medium one after you sign off.

  5. Step 5

Export the podcast as an MP3 by clicking on "Send to iTunes." You can then email the MP3 out or place it on your website.
