If you have a camera, whether it is a digital camera or a web cam, you can be live on the Internet in minutes. You can use your camera to host your own online webisodes. You also can use it to chat with family and friends through your instant messenger program. All you need to go online is your camera, a high-speed Internet connection, and the proper software.
Things You'll Need
- High-speed Internet
- Streaming software
- Computer microphone
Connect your digital camera or web camera to your computer by using the mini-USB cable that came with the camera. If you do not have a mini-USB cable you can purchase one from your local electronics store or computer retailer.
Visit a website that will allow you to stream your live camera footage online. Some of the websites that will allow you to use their streaming software for free are LiveStream.com, UStream.tv, and StickAM.com. In order to use the sites, you will have to create a user account.
Power on your camera. Ensure that you are in a room that has sufficient lighting. If the image you see on your computer monitor is too dark, adjust the lighting or move to a different room with more light.
Log into the account that was created in Step 2. Select the option to "Go Live" or "Stream Live." The wording will vary by website. After you have clicked on the option to go live your camera footage will appear on the web for all of to see. In order to be heard you must have an internal or external microphone on your computer.
Use your camera to participate in video chats with your instant messenger program or other online chat programs. To video chat, simply follow steps 1 and 3. Log into your instant messenger account and click on the option to "Video Chat."
