Find the right deodorant or try a new one. Deodorant and antiperspirants come in many different combinations of varying ingredients. If you use a liquid deodorant try a powder- or gel-based one. Sometimes the trick to combating underarm odor is simply finding the formula that fits your body.

Bathe daily. Underarm odor can be worsened as bacteria and sweat build up throughout the day. Get into a routine of rinsing off your body at least once daily and after heavy physical activity. To help further, wash your underarms with white vinegar for extra disinfection and neutralization of odors.

    • 3

Add baking soda. If deodorant alone is not doing the trick, apply baking soda to your underarms either with deodorant or on its own. Baking soda can neutralize odors and help kill the odor-causing bacteria present in the underarm area. Depending on your size, apply anywhere from 1 to 3 tsp. under each arm twice daily.

Cut back on certain foods and beverages like processed foods, white flour, garlic and alcohol. What you eat can affect the smell of your sweat, and these foods have been found to increase odor. Also, increase your intake of fresh healthy vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water.

Take a supplement. Certain supplements available have been found to decrease sweat and odor. Two supplements you can try include zinc and magnesium, which you can find at your local health food store.

Tips & Warnings

  • If at-home treatment doesn't alleviate odor, you may need to see your doctor for treatment. Some underarm-odor issues are caused by underlying health problems such as gland disorders.
