How to Prevent a Cat From Using Your Bed as the Bathroom

Many cats (especially male cats) have problems with urinating on furniture, including the bed. This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you do not realize the wet spot is on your bed before lying down. Thankfully there are a few different techniques to help prevent your cat from using your bed as a bathroom.

Things You'll Need

• Kitty litter
• Tinfoil

Instructions

1. Clean out and refresh your cat's litter. If the litter box is full, your cat may not use the litter for his bathroom needs and may end up going on the bed.

2. Take your cat to the vet to make sure he does not have a urinary tract infection. This may be causing blockage in the cat, causing him to go to the bathroom in random places.

3. Block off all access the cat has to your bed. If your cat can't reach your bedroom, he won't be able to use it as a bathroom. But if you aren't able to cut off all access to the bed, try placing tinfoil over your bed when you're not using it. Cats do not like the feel of tinfoil on their feet, so your cat will stay clear of the bed if the foil is on top.

4. Keep your cat's water bowl full at all times. Cats can actually act out if they do not have enough water; sometimes out of dehydration cats will go to the bathroom where they are not supposed to do so.
