Fishing is a relaxing yet exhilarating sport. Fishing on lakes or streams in search of large-mouth bass is popular for many anglers. The bass feed on small fish, worms, grubs, lizards and salamanders. Finding the right spot in the water, along with an appropriately colored lure, will entice bass to strike on your line.

Instructions

    • 1

Note the water condition. Determine the degree to which the water is murky and hard to see through.

    • 2

Choose a bright-colored lure for muddy water. Crank baits and spinner baits used for muddy water are yellow, chartreuse, bright belly or any pattern with bright colors. If you use plastic grubs, worms or salamanders, choose the ones with bright-colored tails. Dark blue or gray with an orange or yellow tail will be seen in muddy water.

    • 3

Choose more natural colors for clear water. Chrome, blues and grays are appropriate for both spinner and crank-baits. Choose the translucent lighter colors for plastic worms and grubs.

    • 4

Choose a dark blue or black lure when top-water fishing at night or early morning, when the sunlight is less. The bass will see the lure from below as a silhouette. For top-water fishing during the daytime, choose a lighter, brighter color.
