How to Remove Touch Up Paint on a Car

Touch up paint on a car is meant to cover areas where the paint has either chipped off or has been burned off from a polishing compound or high-speed buffing machine. However, if you want to remove the touch up paint on your vehicle so you can prime the metal and blend in a proper paint job, you'll need to know how to do this process correctly. Fortunately, the process is pretty straightforward.

Things You'll Need

• 1,200 grit sandpaper
• Bucket of water
• Lint-free towel

Instructions

1. Wet the sandpaper. Wet the touch-up paint with water.

2. Rub the surface of the touch-up paint with the sandpaper. This process is called "wet sanding" and will gently remove the touch-up paint without doing serious damage to the paint around the touch-up spot.

3. Clean and dry the area you sanded with a lint-free cotton towel.
