How to Do Kids' Hairstyles in Updos
Updos add an elegant touch to complete a look for any formal occasion. For children, however, and more specifically young girls, updos must be appropriate for their age. Wash the child's hair the night before the event, especially if the gathering is taking place in daylight. This will give you one less task to do in the morning. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner that will make her hair shine. Comb her hair to detangle it and pull just a bit of mousse through it with your fingers.

Curl her hair using curlers or a large barreled curling iron. If the child is comfortable sleeping in rollers, choose this option as it is less harmful to her hair. Otherwise, in the morning, curl her hair with a curling iron.

Enlist her help in the curling process. The most tedious part of the updo is the curling. If you are using curlers, have her hold them for you until you need them. If she is old enough, let her hold the hairspray for you while you use the curling iron.

Tie up the curls in a fashion suitable for young girls. For shorter hair, pull half of her hair up and secure it with a hair band on the crown of her head. Longer hair can also be done this way or all of it can be pulled to her crown. Play around with your options and see which one best matches the occasion.

Put the finishing touches on the updo. If your child does not have bangs, pull a curl down in the front to add elegance. When you are satisfied with how the hairdo looks, hairspray it into place. Add a ribbon around the hair band and other accessories to complete the hairstyle.
