Instructions

    • 1

Place activated charcoal or anti-tarnish strips (such as 3M's Anti-Tarnish Strips) and silica gel packets into your silver storage area. You can get silica gel packets from hobby and craft supply stores---they will keep the humidity in the area low.

    • 2

If storing in a bag, wrap each piece of silver in a piece of archival-quality, acid-free tissue paper or a piece of anti-tarnish tissue.

    • 3

Place the wrapped silver flatware pieces into a zip-top bag along with an anti-tarnish strip and silica gel packet.

    • 4

If storing in a cabinet or drawer, lay down a piece of lacquered wood, or a sulfur absorbing cloth (such as Pacific's Silvercloth).

    • 5

Prevent tarnish by avoiding the use of rubber flatware containers or rubber bands, newspapers, plastic wrap and nonarchival cardboard.

    • 6

Use a flannel flatware roll if you will keep your silver stored away for the majority of the year. Put it in a drawer along with two to three silica gel packets.
