How to Format a SanDisk

A SanDisk, otherwise known as a solid-state drive (SSD) or flash drive, is a small storage apparatus that operates silently and contains no moving parts. The SanDisk is considered the next-generation hard drive. SanDisks may be used for storage in cameras, laptops and other small devices. The SanDisk may be formatted or reformatted using a special SSD formatting utility application available free of charge from the SD Association (See Resources).

Things You'll Need:

  • SD card slot or card reader

    Download SanDisk Formatting Utility

  1. Step 1

    Open an internet browser and enter the URL for the free SanDisk formatting utility into the address bar (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

    Accept the terms of use by clicking the button labeled "I Accept" at the bottom of the page.

  3. Step 3

    Save the executable installation file (sdfv2000.exe) to the computer hard drive.

  4. Step 4

    Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the installation file.

  5. Step 5

    Double-click the sdfv2000.exe file to begin the installation of the software.

  6. Step 6

    Click "Yes" to accept the terms of use for the installation package.

  7. Step 7

    Verify the installation location and click "Next."

  8. Step 8

    Select a Program Folder for installation and click "Next." The progress bar will monitor the installation.

  9. Step 9

    Click "Finish." A text file containing notes for formatting software will automatically open.

  10. Format SanDisk

  11. Step 1

    Click the Windows "Start" button.

  12. Step 2

    Click "All Programs."

  13. Step 3

    Locate and expand the Panasonic link.

  14. Step 4

    Double-click the program entitled "SD Formatter."

  15. Step 5

    Insert the SanDisk card into the SD slot or card reader.

  16. Step 6

    Click the top drop-down box in the SD Formatter interface to view a list of available drives on the computer.

  17. Step 7

    Locate the SanDisk drive and select from the drop-down options.

  18. Step 8

    Click the button labeled "Format" to begin the formatting process. A notification will appear to indicate the process has finished.
