How to Enable Wake on LAN in Windows XP
Wake on LAN (Local Area Network), also called Remote Wake Up, is a service that allows you to remotely turn on your computer over a network connection. While this is used primarily for servicing a computer or remote installation of software, there are many instances when the ability to wake up a computer from any power state can come in handy.

In the Controller Properties box, click on the Power Management tab. Place a checkmark in the box labelled, "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." It is recommended that you check the box labelled, "Only allow management stations to bring this computer out of standby." With this option checked, only Wake On LAN magic packets can turn on the computer. Otherwise, any network traffic will bring the computer out of stand by.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure that the BIOS Hardware Monitor's Halt On setting is set to [No Error] if a problem is detected during the Power-On Self-Test, or POST.
Allowing your computer to respond to Wake On LAN can make it easier for someone else to access your computer remotely.
