How to Wrap Neck Scarves

Learning how to wrap neck scarves is a useful style technique for an elegant business look or a cozy winter accessory. While there are several ways to tie a scarf, whether it is a small silk bandana or a bulky wool scarf, three basic styles for tying a neck scarf are plenty to start incorporating scarves into your seasonal fashion any time of year. The following sections address three basic knots used to wrap neck scarves, one for winter scarves and two for silk scarves.

• Wool neck scarf (long)
• Silk neck scarf (sqaure)

Instructions

Ascot Knot for Winter Scarves

1. Hang the neck scarf around your neck with one end over each shoulder, with equal amounts of scarf on both sides.

2. Take the left end of the scarf and bring it over the right end.

3. Pull the left end of the neck scarf around the back of the right side and up your chest.

4. Pull the left end over and through the "U" formed by the two ends to tie a scarf knot.

5. Adjust the knot, tightening or loosening as desired, and allow the left end to hang loosely over the knot.

Neck Wrap for Silk Scarves

1. Lay your square neck scarf flat.

2. Fold one corner to meet the opposite corner, forming a triangle.

3. Position the triangle in front of your neck with the fold at the top, holding one corner in each hand.

4. Bring the corners around the back of the neck, crossing in the back, and return to the front on opposite sides of the neck.

5. Tie a single knot in the two ends, and position the knot directly under the chin, adding a brooch or pin if desired.

French Twist for Silk Scarves

1. Lay your square neck scarf flat.

2. Start at alternate corners and fold each corner over 2 inches at a time, rolling the scarf towards the center from both ends at once to form a 2-inch wide band.

3. Center the band in front of the neck.

4. Wrap the ends around the back of neck, crossing in the back, and return to the front on opposite sides of the neck.

5. Tie a single knot under the chin, then reposition the knot to one side of the neck to tie a scarf in the French twist style.

6. Add a second knot to form a double knot in the neck scarf, allowing the ends of the knot to hang loosely to the side of your neck.
