Instructions

    • 1

If your Bluetooth device is new or the battery is depleted, connect it to its charger and plug the charger into an outlet. Bluetooth devices need a charge to connect properly or even to turn on.

    • 2

Turn on your phone. Find the Bluetooth settings on the phone and enable connectivity. If you cannot find these settings on your phone by going through the menus, refer to the manual.

    • 3

Pull out your cellphone manual and find out whether your phone has a setting that renders itself invisible to Bluetooth devices. If it does, disable invisibility by going into the Bluetooth menu (most likely under "Tools" or "Options" on the phone's main menu) and finding the setting that will turn invisibility off. Many phones have this feature for security reasons so that others will not connect to your Bluetooth devices.

    • 4

Turn on the Bluetooth device. For many devices, this will also start the connection process.

    • 5

Refer to the Bluetooth device's manual to determine what needs to be done so you can connect to the phone. In some cases, this may be as easy as pressing a button. Go ahead and follow the manual's instructions on starting the connection (sometimes called "pairing") session.

    • 6

Start a pairing session on the phone. Often this can be done by selecting "Add New Bluetooth Device" or something similar on the cellphone menu. If you cannot find this option on the menu, refer to the cellphone manual for directions on how to start a pairing session.

    • 7

At this point your cellphone will ask you for a passcode. Look for the passcode in the Bluetooth device's user manual and enter it into the cellphone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes you may not be able to find a passcode in the Bluetooth device's user manual. In this case, you may be expected to create your own passcode. Enter an eight-digit passcode composed of both letters and numbers, and write this down in a place where you'll be able to find it.

  • You may occasionally connect your phone to a Bluetooth device, like a PDA or a computer, that requires slightly different steps. Unfortunately, it is impossible to cover all the possible types of Bluetooth connections, but the same general steps will apply. You will need to consult your user manuals to find out what modifications should be made to the process.
