How to Cure Hiccups With Honey

Hiccups are caused by swallowing air, either as a result of eating too quickly, drinking carbonated beverages or smoking. Drinking alcohol, excitement and switching between hot and cold drinks have also been said to cause hiccups. No matter the cause, hiccups can be annoying, and even painful at times. Luckily, there are numerous home remedies that can rid you of this condition, several of which feature honey.

  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon ginger juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • Paper bag

  1. Honey Mixture

    • 1

      Combine 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of ginger juice, 1 teaspoon of lime juice and a pinch of pepper.

      Stir the mixture together in a cup or small bowl until it is uniform in color and texture.

      Dip a spoon into the mixture and lick it every few minutes until the hiccups have disappeared.

    Paper Bag and Honey Method

      Pour some honey into a tablespoon and set it down next to you for easy access.

      Hold the open end of a lunch-sized paper bag tightly against your mouth and breathe in and out a few times.

      Eat the honey from the spoon as soon as you put the bag down. Your hiccups should be gone.
