BearShare is a peer-to-peer file-sharing program used to search for and download videos, photos, music and more over a network. Like other file-sharing applications, it increases the potential of unknowingly installing a malicious virus from another user. If you do not use this application or are afraid of downloading a malicious tool, you can uninstall it. You can do this either automatically or manually.

    1. Automatic Removal

        Click the Windows \"Start\" button and click the \"Control Panel.\" Double-click \"Add or Remove Programs\" to launch the programs window. Click \"Program and Features\" and click \"Uninstall a Program\" to launch the programs window if you are using Windows Vista.

        Scroll down the programs window and click \"BearShare.\" Click \"Remove/Uninstall\" to remove the application from your computer. Uninstall the BearShare Media toolbar if it's on your computer.

        Double-click \"My Computer\" on the desktop and double-click the \"C:\" drive. Double-click the \"Program Files\" folder.\"

        Scroll through the Program Files folder and locate the BearShare folder. Right-click it and click \"Delete.\" Close the Program Files folder.

        Empty the recycle bin.

      Manual Removal

        Back up your computer using a restore point you can revert to before manually removing BearShare. To do so, click the Windows \"Start\" button and select \"All Programs.\" Scroll up and select \"Accessories.\" Select \"System Tools\" and click \"System Restore.\"

        Click \"Create a new restore point\" on the System Restore welcome screen. Click \"Next.\" Type a name for the restore point and click \"Create\" to back up your computer.

        Click the Windows \"Start\" button and click \"Run\" or \"Start Search\" (Windows Vista). Type \"regedit\" (without quotes) and press \"Enter\" to launch the registry.

        Click the \"Edit\" button and click \"Find\" to launch the search window. Search for and remove the following BearShare entries:<br />HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\appevents\\eventlabels\\bearsharechatnotifymsg<br />HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\appevents\\schemes\\apps\\bearshare<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\bearshare<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\classes\\clsid\\{558ec983-bedb-9168-b2de-31dbf0ee543e}<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\classes\\gnu<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\classes\\gnufile\\shell\\open\\command<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\microsoft\\active setup\\installed components\\{5f95e1af-2620-4f15-bdf9-7fdce4607e17}<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\uninstall\\bearshare<br />HKEY_USERS\\.default\\appevents\\eventlabels\\bearsharechatnotifymsg<br />HKEY_USERS\\.default\\appevents\\schemes\\apps\\bearshare<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\classes\\gnufile<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\classes\\gnufile<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\licenses<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\licenses<br />HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\software\\microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\run

        Click \"File\" and click \"Exit\" to close the registry.

        Double-click \"My Computer\" on the desktop and double-click the \"C:\" drive.

        Double-click the \"Program Files\" folder. Scroll through the Program Files folder and locate the BearShare folder. Right-click it and click \"Delete.\" Close the Program Files folder.

        Click the Windows \"Start\" button and click \"Search.\" Click \"All Files and Folders\" on the left panel and click \"More Advanced Options.\" Place a check on all the given options. Search for and delete the following BearShare files:<br />bearshare downloads.lnk<br />bearshare.lnk<br />bearshare.lnk

        Empty the recycle bin and restart your computer to complete the removal process.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Do not attempt to manually delete BearShare from your computer if you are not experienced in computer troubleshooting. It is a difficult process that can severely damage your computer if you make a mistake.
