How to Grow an Awesome Handlebar Mustache

How to Grow an Awesome Handlebar Mustachethumbnail
Many handlebar mustache growers prefer a longer version of the classic style.

The handlebar mustache is a classic mustache style recognizable by its upward-curled tips resembling bicycle handlebars. This type of mustache has several sub-styles, however, if you want to grow an "awesome" handlebar mustache, you probably want your mustache to be thick and bushy with long, accentuated tips. Growing a successful mustache of this style can take months and necessitates regular maintenance and commitment.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Mustache comb
    • Mustache wax
      • 1

Grow a wide mustache. Shave the rest of your facial hair often, but allow your mustache to grow as far to the left and right sides of your face as possible.

      • 2

Part your mustache with a mustache comb to the left and right when it has grown long enough to comb. This can take several weeks. Train your mustache to part as it grows longer.

      • 3

Grow your mustache so that when combed to the sides, the tips of the mustache stretch beyond the corner of your lips. Some handlebar mustaches are trimmed in the center. For a thick, bushy mustache, avoid clipping your mustache at all. Ensure the tips of you mustache grow long.

      • 4

Apply a small amount of mustache wax to your mustache, concentrating on the tips. Squeeze wax onto a mustache comb and comb the wax through your hair, or rub a small amount of wax between your thumb and forefinger and work it through your mustache.

      • 5

Twist the tips of your mustache to create sharp points on each side.

      • 6

Curl the tips of your mustache around your fingers. Shape the curls so that they point upwards. The mustache wax will hold your curls in place.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Study photos of handlebar mustaches to decide how long you want to grow your mustache tips, and the particular style of mustache curls you want.

    • If you apply too much wax to your mustache, wash it out with hot water. A mustache with too much wax can look and feel greasy. Apply the minimal amount of wax needed to shape your mustache.
