How to Learn Important Terms in the Baby Modeling Business

Before you get your child into the modeling business, there are some important baby modeling terms you should learn. By learning these important baby modeling definitions, you will be ahead of a lot of parents and will know what industry people are talking about such as your baby modeling agent, casting director, photographers or other modeling clients who you will come in contact with. Become familiar with the terms and be sure you understand them as the modeling terms are used daily in the modeling industry.

  1. Step 1

    Agent (Modeling Agent)- Modeling and talent agents provide representation to models, actors and other talent.

  2. Step 2

    Booking- A Booking happens when a company selects a model for a particular job.

  3. Step 3

    Callback- All callback is when a client is interested in a model or actor and would like to see them for a second time, prior to making the ultimate selection as to who will get the modeling job.

  4. Step 4

    Casting Calls - A request made by a business or company for modeling agencies or talent agencies to have the models appear for an interview.

  5. Step 5

    Composite card- Card with 3-5 photos of model and their height, eye and hair color and size information to promote and distribute to prospective clients see what it looks like. Also known as a comp card or zed card.

  6. Step 6

    Go-See- An interview or audition for a model prior to being booked

  7. Step 7

    Headshot – Usually a black/white picture of a models’ or actor face. Mostly used for acting.

  8. Step 8

    Modeling Jobs - jobs that models book including: Print Modeling Jobs, Fashion Shows, Commercial Print Jobs, etc...

  9. Step 9

    Photo Shoot - session in which a photographer takes shots of an individual or group; also called photo session

  10. Step 10

    Portfolio- Contains photos, usually of a model’s prior work, that is used at go-sees to determine which model will be selected for a job.

  11. Step 11

    Print Modeling - photography taken for catalog and mail order, books, brochures, ads for magazines or newspapers, magazine covers, commercial photography for household products, business products and services. Also known as print work
