How to Replace Headlight Bulbs on a Chrysler Neon

The Neon, manufactured by Chrysler and sold under the Dodge and Plymouth brand, was produced until 2005. The small Neon's limited engine bay space means that you cannot access the headlight bulbs directly; you must remove the entire headlight assembly from the car.

Things You'll Need

• Replacement bulb No. 9007
• Gloves
• Screwdriver

Instructions

1. Pop the hood, and remove the three screws holding down the front fascia cover. This plastic cover extends from the top of one headlight to the other.

2. Remove the two screws from the headlight mounting bracket. Pull the headlight assembly away from the car; be careful not to scratch the bumper cover.

3. Disconnect the electrical connection from the rear of the headlight assembly. Turn the retaining ring counterclockwise and remove it.

4. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to unlock it, and then pull it out of the assembly. Pull the old bulb off and insert the new bulb.

5. Insert the bulb socket back into the rear of the headlight assembly. Turn it clockwise to lock it. Replace the retaining ring.

6. Reconnect the electrical connector, and insert the headlight assembly back into its mounting position. Tighten the screws on the mounting bracket and replace the front fascia cover.

Tips & Warnings

• Bulb No. 9007 is used for both the high-beam and low-beam lights.

• Wear gloves to prevent contaminating the bulb; oil from your skin can cause a headlight bulb to burn out.
