1
Set the weights on the machine before sitting down. Most machines will have a series of plates, labeled with the cumulative weight at each plate, and a pin. Insert the pin beneath the plate of your desired weight to set the weight.
-
2
Sit or stand in the machine in a comfortable stance. If you are not able to get comfortable, use a different machine, or check if the mechanisms are at adjustable heights. Do not use a machine if you are not comfortable in it or you can hurt yourself.
-
-
3
Grip the machine firmly, or press your feet firmly against the foot plates for leg-driven equipment, before starting to move the weight.
-
4
Push or pull the equipment only after you have a comfortable posture and grip.
-
5
Watch other gym members use equipment if you are unsure of how to use a particular piece of equipment.
-
6
Ask another member, or gym employee, how to use a piece of equipment if you are still unsure of its proper use.
-
7
Clean the equipment when you are done using it. Many gyms will provide wipes. Toweling off your sweat and disinfecting the equipment is a courtesy which helps prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
